Hi Guys,

Has anyone got any tips for feeding new wires up the A pillar, along the roof, and down the rear pillar? (same route that the wiring loom goes). I'm not removing any current wiring that I can use to pull the new wires through, and I really don't fancy removing my headlining either! Has anyone got any tips before I simply try and shove a length of stiff wire up there and hope for the best?

Cheers

Chris

You don't need to remove all the headlining, just unclip from under the door seal and quarter window seal. Take care not to hit the bars.

I used a slightly stiffer wire, like a gardening wire, which is pliable yet stiff. Threaded that through first, then wrapped that around the new wire and pulled it back through. Good luck.

I usually attach a draw wire to the existing loom, plus one to the interior light wire, pull it back, add in the new wires, give 3 hail merrys, and pull it back in.

This is basically the method used on Peugeot 405s on the Ryton production line when I was an apprentice:

1. Feed a complete bike brake cable (inner and outer together) through the section. Ensure the end with the inner cable pear or nipple is at end the end you want your wire to feed to.

2. Pull and remove the outer from the end you want to feed from, leaving the inner cable inside the section.

3. Attach your wire to the inner cable with tape (The factory ones had special hooks to grab the connector)

4. Pull the inner wire pear/nipple and voila! (well, it was a French car...)

On my Mini I did this in sections as the cantrail-roof area can be accessed by pulling back the headliner in a few places - so up the A pillar first, then the cantrail and then the rear quarter.

Paul.
