A few weeks back I stupidly left my ignition on and my coil exploded. Since then I have tried to start the engine after coil replacement but wouldn't fire up. I looked in my 25d dizzy to find the black braided wire that goes from the points to the VE spade to be burnt out. So I replaced this and went to start again and the dizzy cap filled with smoke. So I turned it all off. I double checked the wiring in there. The plate to earth wire is there and the points are set properly. Does anyone have any ideas on where it's gone wrong?

Have you replaced the condensor as well?

Didn't replace this as I thought I would see if I got away with it ? I'm more worried about the smoke. Would a blown condenser cause the smoke?

Could be, check this video: https://www.youtube....?v=3b7mjukhTyQ. Although it's a slightly different type of condenser (or better: capacitor), I think the same would happen inside your dizzy...
