Warning to anyone in the Northamptonshire area looking for a repairer. This guy has 27 previous convictions and got an 18 months community order.

I read about that incident and couldn't believe it. Still not sure how legal ownership can transfer to a third party without the true owner being informed by DVLA?

It's actually very easy to claim ownership of vehicles without the prior keeper really knowing about it. It happens all the time. And once it happens it's very difficult to prove otherwise.

Not forgetting that a V5C has nothing to do with ownership so the DVLA manage to sidestep any responsibility quite nicely.

I'm afraid the 18 month community order and 3 weeks of unpaid work aren't exactly a deterent to others.

7K for 3 weeks work, that 2.33K per week, nice little earner.  No doubt the money will be all gone and the cars righfull owner might have got back what was left of it while the purchaser would be out of pocket.

We need to come down hard on people like this to deter them and others, 10 years would put people off but of course we don't have enought space to house all the criminal scum, its costs us money to keep them locked up and all they do is learn more criminal ways from each other while inside.

I wouldn't mind betting the purchaser knew full well the car was stolen. He purchased a car for £7K then immediately stripped it down to sell the parts.
