Hi, i'm new on here and new to minis.

I've found a 1970 mini which has been fitted with a later dash.

I would like to make sure it's not a later car fitted with a 1970 ID.

Are there any differences to the body on a 1970 car to say one from the 80's?

Thanks, Graham

There are loads and loads of differences.

If you can post some pics? We can rip it apart for you and date it :)

One easy way is to look at the top of the front subframe. If it has 2 bolts/studs on each turret then it is a shell before 75/76.

Later shells had the roof gutter drains on the tops of the side body seams, earlier ones were like a side slash an inch or so away from seams towards the centre of the roof.

Loads more differences.

I saw this a few days ago, as you say the gutter looks correct from what you can see, but everything else screams late model mini. It may have had drip rails added or the roof and pillars fitted from an earlier model.

Same feeling for me. Also the fresh air vents and inner door handles look to be MK4 onwards.

And this dash and servo were fitted from MK5.

It doesn’t actually look bad value if it’s not rusty but the problem being that it’s fraudulently claiming tax and MOT exemption which I believe renders it crushable if it was ever presented to anyone who knew or cared (eg you decided to take it for an MOT anyway ....)

Thanks everyone, you've confirmed what I suspected. It's a shame because I like the car but I want something genuine.

Why risk nearly £10k on a car you haven't yet bought and is very obviously not what it says it is?

Easiest way to check is ask for a picture inside the boot, the petrol tank should have a strap over the top rather than around the side and the rear bulkhead should have a large oblong hole for the rotodip.  If it doesn't have them (especially the hole in the bulkhead) its not genuine, if it does then it may be or it may be a good fake.

Doesn't appear to be much from the 70's in this one either, no under bonnet or boot pictures, and he doesn't want to give any additional photos that are requested. I wonder why??

If that isn't a late eighties/early nineties car I would be very suprised.
