Hi guys just finished putting my engine back in the car. Been messing about with the carb to get her running right and noticed the something odd with my oil pressure.

On start up it sits about 41 to 49 psi. As soon as I rev the engine it drops to between 7 and 18 psi. I ordered a new relief valve as I noticed mine was scored, and it’s made no difference. The only thing is, every time I remove the valve and put it back in, the pressure shoots up in to the 40’s until I rev it. It can sit idling away and the pressure doesn’t vary.

Am I right in thinking this could be the valve sticking open? I have read about these valves on here but I couldn’t find much about sticking ones, other than replace with the ball bearing type. I have ordered a ball bearing and spring just to see if it changes the fault. Is there anything else I could try? Thanks

Only a guess, but that to me sounds like it could be a leak on the suction side of the pump (like not sealing on the gasket) and / or a blocked strainer or pick-up pipe.
