Two hypothetical questions regarding the MPI pre-tensioner seatbelts.
Can the pre-tensioners physically be removed and still allow the seatbelt to function, for example if fitted to a Mk1 therefore not subject to the legal requirements? I believe there is just a steel cable connecting them as I have seen one which has been cut but do not have one to examine.
Secondly, if the pre-tensioner has been deployed, does this render the seatbelt scrap or can it be "reset" and used as a non-pretensioner belt?
I am aware that this should not be done and there are safety issues involved etc. I have seen a few sets on eBay and it has got me thinking.
