I have 2 clutch slave cylinders, one with a circlip to limit travel of the piston, ( I guess) and the other without. Design change? Manufacturing cost decision? Functional difference between the two?

The Originals all had Circlips. I'm not 100% certain, but I think those without are after-market.

I have, as above, a “Gen” MiniSpares one with out a C clip and I have a few years old after market one that has a C clip.

i seem to remember back in the day that it was the Verto that had the clip as it had the stronger internal spring as they were self adjusting, and th3 C clip stopped the piston being pushed ou.

I did get a surprise when I thought I'd bleed it without the arm on having had a circlip one before!

They were added way back in Mk1 production. I seem to recall that the coil type clutch and no circlip could cause significant thrust issues
