I removed it to fit an oil pressure gauge and was having problems with leaking t piece but now the starter motor just spins and doesn’t engage?

Surely if the starter's spinning but not engaging that is a separate issue? The oil pressure switch just causes the warning light to operate if pressure drops?

Sounds like you've pulled a wire off the starter solenoid.

Yeah that’s what I was hoping it’s just I have just taken the switch off and now it won’t run is what I was asking the question

I had a Metro Turbo where I believe the oil pressure switch was linked to the (electric) fuel pump to stop the car running until there was oil pressure (to protect the turbo methinks)
Not sure that's a thing on an SPi (maybe on an MPi?) - guess a quick flick of the circuit diagram on here will tell you, although if its a function of the ECU then it might not be clear (I have looked at the SPi and MPi wiring diagram just for interest but never needed to study them)

Had a quick look at the WD and doesn't seem that the oil pressure switch is linked into anything to stop the car running/starting (although I might be wrong)
Guess whistler is on the right track; you may have disturbed something else inadvertently.

Your issue lies elsewhere.

I have just tested this on my 1275 on hif carb, plugged in or not it made no difference.
Your problem is elsewhere as previously mentioned.
