These bearings have been driving me bonkers of late...I can't get my car back together without them, I'm unwilling to bother with anything but Timken, and I wound up paying over $100 for them in California and I still haven't received them. Something's gotta be up. Covid?

If they're shipped via USPS you're in for a wild ride.

Any name brand will be good. SKF, NSK, FAG, SNR,.. will all be fine. Just dont buy a cheap copy of any of the above.

I have just spoken to guess works, very helpful.
I have a full set both sides on the way.
They will post express delivery if needed.
Or snail mail (my build is taking a while)
They have a substantial stock of fronts and rears.

Mm, well. I just received my bearings from Mini Mania...The fronts are Mini Spares bearings with seals and what not, box labelled GHK1140...The actual bearings are in boxes that say SCH (www.gsl.eu.com). The bearings themselves have no brand (such as Timken), but are labelled LM67049A.

Same deal with the rear bearings. Labelled GHK1805, but the bearings themselves say: KOR FHBC NP880810 (NP419272 on the box as well).

I'll be Not Happy if I paid $320 and still waited over a week just get some non-Timken-ass-bearings...Is there a way to tell (or is it already certain since they don't scream TIMKEN® on them)?

The KOR Bearings are Chinese manufacture. Do a search on the forum for other's experiences with that brand of bearing.

Timken bearings will distinctly have 'ground' in the name TIMKEN on the Cup and on the Cone. For the fronts, they'll also have hand engraved numbers (that should all match) on the bearings and the spacer. If they have no name on them, they are not Timkens.

At work we have had some major problems with premature bearing failures recently, so this is something that I have been looking at a fair bit! Strangely enough, Timken, are bearings that we do not fit, as these are the most unreliable! Funny how they are the one and only bearing to fit for one application, but a "defiantly don't fit" for another!  :D

Rolling Element Bearings are now one of the most faked items, so just because it says Timken, FAG, SKF etc on the bearing, or indeed the box, don't assume that it is the real thing! Even authorised dealers have been sold fake bearings! One of my colleagues went to a bearing supplier, and witnessed a guy taking fake SKF bearings out of a crate, and putting them into genuine SKF boxes!

I think it is safe to say that you should only buy Timken wheel bearings from the larger Mini suppliers and authorised dealers, to stand a chance of getting what you want!

by way of a recommendation for Guessworks; rang in my order yesterday lunchtime and received a full set of timken bearings (..and seals etc) this morning

as an added bonus, by ordering a full set i got a discount  :proud:

..and as if that wasn't enough, i now have an invaluable addition to my tool collection courtesy of John@GuessWorks

Indeed, I spoke with someone at Mini Spares. He said that they are completely out of Timken bearings, because Timken is not making them (presumably due to covid shutdowns—the US is still a mess). He said if I could find them in stock anywhere...buy them quick.

So. I have Mini Spares boxes with Mini Spares "genuine Timken" part numbers and non-genuine-Timken bearings in them that I bought through Mini Mania and I can't put my car together without bearings. This oughta be fun.

It's not clear who to blame here, so I won't, but...buyer beware: scrutinize your bearings.
