Hi Guys I am the reasonably proud owner of a S reg Mini Cooper 1.3i MPI ....I say reasonably as it overheats at every opportunity with a lot of steam and water coming out from the heater which I was told to turn on to get home! Wattle bottle completely empty ...any ideas ? Heater matrix... air bubble ..

your valued assistance would be welcome!
changed all the water pipes and thermostat and still spews ...

MPI has a external fan, is that kicking in ? 

 

does the top hose get hot ? so we know the thermostat is opening 

 

if you open the rad cap and let it warm up do you see the water being pumped in so we know if your pump impella is still attached ( obviously dont do it while its hot or you,ll get a face full of boiling water

If steam and water are coming out of the heater matrix then it's shot. This will also mean the system will not pressurise which will make it overheat. Replace the matrix or get it fixed, then fill and pressure test the system. Beware of cheap replacement (useless) pressure caps, get one of the blue seal BMW ones.
