    Starting My Mini Up

Hi there,

my name is Fabian, I'm 26 years old and coming from Wuppertal, Germany.

Usually I work on BMW's from the 80s and 90s, got a 320i E30 and a 318is E36 Track tool.

My wife always wanted a Mini since I met her, so on our 4th wedding day back in July I got her a 1977 left-hand drive MK4 here in Germany. It's a 1098cc with probably 33kW, at least that's what the papers say, but for sure they are wrong in some parts, as there is MK2 written in the letter. The Car is out of service since 1994 and was kept in a dry area, as it doesn't have that much rust. We bought it from a barn where some probably Russian people were ripping off modern cars.  We considered that they tried to get the Mini running but didn't make it. So me and my Dad checked the oil level, got some fuel in the tank, checked the ignition (which was completely wrong) and gave it a try since 26 years of sleep. It took us about 35 minutes and the Mini was back alive. Now as we know the engine is at least not dead, I will just partly disassemble it, check the shafts and seal everything up new, maybe more if necessary. Our plans for this little fella are, that he get rid of all its rust, a new paint job in yellow with a white roof, and rally-like-look with a roll cage and some more front lights. I hope to find a lot of help with you guys, as it's my first carburettor car and my first British one too. Good to know is that my dad for now has two Rolls and always had some Morris Minors, Riley's and Rolls around our place either for repair or our own cars.

I attached a picture of the Mini and the BMW's too, just for fun.

Thanks in advance,

Fabian and Alicia

If your Dad can fix a Rolls he will have no trouble with a mini....

Although of course there are some things very different  :D
