Hi, did a search but can't find anything. I need to replace my mechanical fuel pump on my mk4 and im wondering if the cheaper non genuine fuel pumps are of good quality or if its recommended to get a genuine SU pump? Thanks

From experience, the scope for poor quality parts is huge! there are some good aftermarket parts out there but it’s finding them amongst the rubbish! That’s why I’d always try and go for the genuine parts where available - especially with something that if it fails, could at best cause a breakdown potentially on a fast moving road, or at worst dump fuel all over your nice hot exhaust!

Yes, there is a lot of rubbish out there, and you do not want failure !!

On a fast moving National speed limit road, going 50 - 60, and the cheap pump goes bump, and all that traffic behind - Disaster !!

I would fit a new mechanical SU pump, I know there is not a lot of wriggle room, but in experience, I have only ever had to replace 1 in 37 years, and yes, I replaced with a genuine, and never any bother after,

Do the job once - not twice.

I tried the cheaper Minispares pump and the arm didn't sit on the cam properly.  Put the thirty five year old SU pump back in and it's fine.  That said I must replace it before the ethanol does it in.

Never had an issue with Ebay sourced mechanical pumps (I always check the seller and only buy from a select few)

Works out cheaper delivered than minispares most of the time

Go genuine su pump, their new ones are ethanol resistant as you don’t want to be faffing about replacing it in a few months time. Ball ache of a job and sore on the back if engine is in the car. Some parts aren’t worth saving a few pounds on.

Depends wich one you ll buy. A facet is perfect. And I have very good experience with Bosch pumps as well. Both cheaper than SU replicas.
