Thank you all. I will take another look at it this afternoon. I'm not too concerned about the not turning over bit for now. I'm more concerned about NO electrics anywhere. No dash lights, can't switch on anything etc.

I fitted a new battery which is showing perfect voltage

What do you call perfect voltage?  It should be 13.8V

I'd first suspect a flat battery and then a very bad short - on your photos of the ignition wiring 5 way plug, both the permanent live (brown) and ignition switched live (white) look like they have been overheating - this points to a short on the ignition circuit somewhere.

I charged the battery overnight to confirm it's not the battery at fault. It's reading 13.6-13.8v consistently before and after the charge.

I'm getting this voltage at the 5 way plug you mention above, now. This is after cleaning up all connections to the starter solenoid and coil to ensure they all have good connections.

I have a Smith's voltmeter on my dash which also shows no reading, regardless of ignition position.

I've checked resistance across the coil and it reads 1.3ohms which I believe is normal too.

Tried "hot-wiring" back of ignition switch?

Perm live (brown?) to white (ignition activated)

Then it should be white with red trace to solenoid activation.

That would eliminate the ignition switch (which is what it sounds like may be your problem)

Tried shorting the brown to white with an offcut of wire. Nothing.

Tried shorting brown to white with red trace with an offcut of wire. Solenoid made clicking noise.

From this I presume there is an issue with ignition.

No - this should make the engine turn over - independent of the ignition.
Starter relay possibly?

Taken it out and replaced with another I have in stock.  I have then tested voltage at the starter solenoid and it has no reading at all.  Put original relay back in and gets full voltage from the battery.  Think starter relay is fine.

It looks like the main battery wire is touching the casing of the solenoid.Where is the white red at the starter? Is the starter stuck in mesh?Steve..

White red goes to the starter relay I think not to the solenoid/starter? - If you can see it the picture the brown/red goes to the solenoid large terminal

No help to the OP though.

A voltage test doesnt prove that a battery is good. I work in a parts shop. I see loads of batteries at 12.5v with next to 0 CCA.

That white/black on the alternator is not right - remove it and try again.

Anyone any ideas? I'm no further forward and still have a car that has no ignition let alone turning over. Losing my patience with the dam thing now!
