OK - so all fuses and holders checked and working fine.

Anyone able to advise me if there is a cable going across the car to link the left and right sidelights?

The wires for both sidelights and both headlights are joined with bullet connectors beneath the bonnet catch on the front panel.

 

Because of the exposed position and also the open ends of the bullet connectors people have lots of problems with bad connections, corrosion and the like.

 

Any problems with lights at the front. I would check these connectors first and clean them.

I've not tried them yet, but I've been told the more modern "Japanese Bullets" are an improvement over the originals as they have better seals. I'm planning on getting some to try out when I re-loom my classic (which has similar wiring to the Mini).

 

The originals are open at the ends and moisture can get in .. although I guess you could shrink-wrap them too.

Thanks, but im guessing the chances that front and rear cables across causing nearside lights front and back to fail is going to be rare.

Your original post mentioned that sidelights on the RH side weren't working. Your post above mentions nearside lights. Is this the same original problem or has it changed to the other side?

Bite the bullet time,remove dash,start at fuse as last known voltage and unravel the loom to find where the Clocks rear and front light wires are teed.The fault has to be before this to stop all of them.Seems daunting but guessing is not fixing it.Kind of therapeutic I find.Steve..

Do the lights currently not working have LEDs in them?

Errr ... no. Especially fronts where the wiring is more exposed to elements .. check the bullet connectors that join left to right.

No - none worked when we first inherited it - changed all the fuses and most things worked

 

Do the lights currently not working have LEDs in them?

 

we have replaced the front lights with the LED/ring/etc - all work except drivers side sidelights front and back

We know there is a short somewhere as the rear light dims on the left when braking.  Ive not had chance to look at that yet.
