According to my information Cherry Red was used from 1959 to 1969 and the BMC code is RD-4.

Can anyone help me in finding a supplier of this paint or the formulation for RD-4 if it's out there anywhere?

thanks,

Brian

You can get this mixed at any car body paint supplier, just pop in or call them up and they should be able to mix it no problem, get them to double check the code on there paint system and what you want it mixed in 2k, solvent, water ect ect and how much you need. Don’t forget you also need to ask the mix on it for painting so if it’s 2k you the mix could be 2:1 or solvent 1:1 this changes from paint brand to brand but there tell you the best stuff to use.

Best bet is to visit an automotive paint supplier who will be able to mix some up for you.

I believe COG is the rover code for the mini 30 so not relevant for your rd4

Cheers

Ben

I doubt any mix will be very close given the age of the colour. Many mixing schemes won't even have a formula for it.

Best bet is to find a paint supplier with a spectrometer and  have them scan a pattern from your vehicle. That will bring up the closest match and they can tint it from there to get it close.

I took all the paint codes I could find to my local supplier and he couldn't find it.
The car has been repainted red but I'm sure it's not the correct Cherry Red. He can come pretty close to matching what's on the car by using a spectrometer. From other cars I've seen though, I think it should have more orange in it.
thanks for the reply,

Are you trying to match what's on the car or are you doing a complete respray and want it the original colour ?

Never had a problem mixing it myself, from memory not 100% but shore it’s on the MIPA scheme and DuPont scheme. Yes if trying to match a old faded colour your going to struggle but if painting a car all over then your be fine, can even buy cherry red from online paint suppliers.
But would recommend some where local so you know what your buying.

It's undergoing a full body off restoration and I would really like to be able to paint it the correct Cherry Red.

Is MIPA a paint manufacturer?

I believe I've found it.
Carquest here in Canada is a supplier of R-M paints. I had an old R-M code which is no longer in use but the supplier was very helpful so when I told him I was looking for BMC Cherry Red he found it under the original BMC code (RD04).

That’s great news, I have never had any issues here in the U.K. mixing it and seems to pop up on most systems.

Also would love to see some pictures once painted
