Skf Rear Wheel Bearings

Best Answer Spider , 15 September 2020 - 06:58 PM

Thanks Moke Spider, would you clean and grease in situ in the hub? If not, any idea how I remove them?

Yes, I'd just clean them in the hub, it will take a bit of doing to get all the old grease out, then you can inspect them, there's usually enough space between the cage and the races for that, then grease, fit a new seal and refit back on the car. Be sure to use a good quality grease and don't over fill it.

1991 Cooper

I’ve just come to strip the OS Rear hub and discovered that the bearings are SKF BA1B633299B Angular Contact Bearings.

Firstly, would this be normal fitment to a 1991 car?

Secondly and more importantly, how do I remove them? The inner races almost touch and I can’t see how to get behind them to drift them out!

Cheers!

They are aftermarket.

Your best to use a hydraulic press on the outer races

So ball bearing not taper roller?

not original for the mini. Bu5 original for the Metro and a cheaper replacement for the Mini.

If they are OK, clean them, grease and leave them.

You just need to inspect and re grease the bearing cage and roller assembly.

Thanks Moke Spider!

I'll give that a go, I have a tub of Timken Bearing Grease, so I'll use that!

Cheers!
