Best Answer GermanMoreno , 11 October 2020 - 01:13 PM

Bad stero installed caused my ignition to toast. Wiper stalk was defective too but not related to ignition burning!
Everythin is fixed now, stereo properly hooked and warranty stalked installed!

Thnks!

Hi! I want to buy genuine Lucas indicator switches/stalk, I bought last year a pair from Rimmer bros and they already broke! (They stated they were genuine lucas but when I opened them, no lucas stamp on them) Anyhow, I found the cables ripped from normal use, very bad quality, even got a little scared because smoke was coming out of the wiper stalk.. Yikes!.

These are the ones I am after:

1. Lucas Wiper Windscreen - BAU5346
2. Lucas Switch Direction Indicator - BAU5345

Can anyone tell me if minispares sells genuine stuff or also reproductions? I am hoping to find the real thing :)

I know what you are saying about the quality of these, I always found the genuine Lucas versions to be very so-so on quality. Sadly, all that I know of these days is the reproduction items (Made in Taiwan) and yes, the quality of them isn't at all great, I can usually get about 3 - 4 years from them and that's it.

Fitting Relays will go a long way to stopping it overheating, melting or catching on fire ! Also, keeping them out of the sun as much as you can will also help.

Minispares stuff is repro, according to their website they are better quality than some other copies (i don't know if it is or not).

IF you insist on genuine NOS (i do whenever possible) then these seem to be the real thing....

Both will ship to Canada.

Thank you guys, I checked again today more carefully, and the cable of the wiper stalk is indeed broken (a black cable, I assume is a ground?)...
But, the smoke is coming from the ignition switch, not from the stalk.
Could this be related? wiper stalk and ignition switch? I have to admit my ignition switch looks a bit beaten, but its weird that it has started to smoke as soon as the stalk broke.

It smokes when I run the wipers

Heres a pic & a video
