Great article :)

Is it possible to adjust it the other way? I have a spare rev counter which I fitted to my '98 JDM (Mpi ignition) and it reads half what it should do, I assume this is therefore from an earlier car and is set to receive 4 pulses per revolution whereas my coil output must be only 2 pulses per revolution?

That is how they are adjusted, but if I can suggest, a spot on accurate way to calibrate them or just about any Tacho of the RVI Type (which these are).

Find an AC Transformer that has a 9 to 12V (AC) output. You can sometimes find these in a Plugpak form, which makes them easy and safe to use. You'll also need a 12V DC Power Supply too (this could be a Gel battery, another DC Plugpak, or some small jumpers from your car)

Power up the Tacho with the 12V DC, then connect the AC Transformer or Plugpak between Earth (-ve of the Power Supply) and the Tacho input.

In the UK and other countries where the normal AC Power is 50 Hz, the Tacho should be adjusted until it reads 3000 RPM, in the US and other places where the normal power is 60 Hz, it should be adjusted to read 3600 RPM.
