Hi folks wondering if anyone could possibly help a newby ? I have an original cooper s 1968 which I have enjoyed for the past 17 years I have taken head off to get skimmed and new valve stem oil seals fitted . I have also ordered gasket kits for everywhere but just wondering the best way to clean the carbon off the pistons which I will be doing myself .

You tube mention wd40 non aerosol and green abrasive pad which looks good on the video but worried about getting carbon down inside bores .

Can any of you lovely people give me advise ?

Also I have factory recliners with chrome handles on ( can you still buy them ? )

thanks every one who can help me in advance

The handles crop up on a bay quite often, think they may be same as mgb but been a while since I purchased mine,

The green abrasive pad would worry me more than carbon. Is it a green/yellow pan scourer?OK,green scotchbrite type abrasive?not OK.With some care carbon will not be a problem. Now comes the debate ,leave a "sealing ring" around the outside?clean it all off?many thoughts.Enjoy,Steve..

Back in the day cleaning the carbon off the pistons was not be advised unless you wanted an increase in oil consumption, which was already pretty high on a 1275 Cooper S.....

Would be strange to take out TMF+ membership just for a wind up?

I would think if you are going to try and clean them, start as gentle as you can and work your way up.

Newton Commercial, expensive but great quality.

Try Autostitch too.

Do you have any photos of the seats/handles as that would make it easier to advise. If you are you returning to standard or looking to change them can take you down different routes. Covers are generally available from the above sites, Optimise Automotive are on here too and you may get a discount with the TMF+ but it depends what you are looking for.

Hello, I have a 68 Morris S .  I had my original recliners refurbished, as the originals are much more authentic. What's the issue with your handles.  Do you need some?
