Try Icon Restorations or Ecotune.

For classic mini specialist tuners I'd recommend The Mini Works or Mcdonald Minis both in Edinburgh.

Hi, you've probably carried out whatever decision you have made regarding the piston/carbon removal. if not my take would be this;

There is nothing to concern yourself with other than i assume you carried out the normal checks beforehand.

I am also assuming you checked the compression before stripping and there is/was no excessive bore wear, a lip or ridge you feel when running your fingers down the bore where the top compression ring sits on the piston when it moves to TDC during stroking/running, and there is/was no scoring or bore glazing.

Dependant on what you find will depend on how far you go with your engine.

Cleaning the piston crown can be done with a scrapper but be especially careful you don't damage the piston crown, when i repaired engines or rebuilt them years ago i used a screwdriver with a good edge, i say screwdriver because you can control the rate of carbon removal, scrapper if your confident, be careful not to clean of excessively at the outside diameter of the piston otherwise there will possibly be oil consumption and smoking for sometime after rebuild.

Good Luck.

The best tool for cleaning carbon off pistons and gaskets off surfaces is a old piston ring. Sharp and curved.

The most effective and gentle way of getting rid of carbon deposits is: Oven Cleaner

Just make sure to not leave it too long on aluminium and neutralise remains afterwards.
