Some MCR members have reproduced the aluminium dash by getting a more common walnut one and converting it by gluing on some alloy sheet, you can do the turning with a bit of wooden dowel in a drill with some cutting paste...
Apparently the optional John Cooper Garages alloy dashboard was totally different from the one issued by Rover in 2000. (Mini 40, John Cooper LE & the 2000 Sport & 500 models).
The JCG version was actually made from genuine machined stainless steel, while the Rover dash was made from a much cheaper durable 'stick on' plastic. If you find a copy of the JCG 1999 brochure you will see the stainless steel dash plus the matching stainless steel door & rear cappings. Also as part of their S-Works special edition car (launched in around 1999). This S-works dash was much more impressive than the one found on the Mini 40 or Cooper Sport. If you bought a Mini40 or a 2000 car with the Cooper Conversion fitted from new, they just came with the factory fitted dash, if you bought an optional dash to replace a walnut one then you would get the JC manufactured one which were available long before 1999. JC also offered walnut dashes, long before Rover started fitting them. Rovers walnut dash was an option on the Cooper from the 93 model year (standard fit on Mayfair) and standard from the 1995 model year.
