I am currently contemplating building my first engine.. I would prefer to buy off the shelf parts rather than use refurbished parts.

What I would like to build is a
1275 block bored out to 1293 and supercharge it.

Where do I start. What should I buy. What would you recommend.???

Budget at this time is sort of irrelevant as I would rather build a high quality engine with quality parts rather than the next best thing. Obviously I don't want to go to silly, and there isn't a time scale .

The car will be for road use only .

Looking forward to all your responses and recommendations

Kevin

Are you looking to build the whole lot? As minispares do everything but you would have to buy a short engine which would be built up.

Before you start, make sure you fully understand the implications and technicalities of forced induction. Do your own calculations and measuring to get the boost ratio, compression ratio and ignition advance curve correct. Those are critical in getting a forced induction unit to work well and be reliable.

What sort of supercharger are you thinking about? The only one I have any experience with is the original Shorrock one, although they may be hard to fine these days. I did a 1275 Sprite Mk.1 with a Shorrock blower and it went very well. Getting the gearing correct to provide the correct boost pressure needed a lot of calculation and consideration of pulley sizes. I got a distributor curved by Aldon Automotive and I used Omega low-comp pistons with the head chambers further opened to increase the chamber volumes. In the end there was a comprehensive set of calculations and measurements which went with the engine.
