Ok so got the inlet manifold back and fitted, itā€™s better ticking over abit low and struggling to get the steps down, assuming I need to drive it abit then Have another play?
but certainly better!, I wasnā€™t getting any steps last time.
On the stepper numbers is the higher the number the stepper more open allowing more air in ?
Thanks attached a video :-

Thank you

Disconnect battery for 20 mins,
Then get ready for a decent run about 20-30 mins city driving for the ecu to relearn

Resets the internal clock and the learned adaptions. Do this

Nope doesnā€™t do a reset of learned adaptions. Thatā€™s why Rover dealers used the T4, can only be done with diagnostic gear as the memory is non volatile.

I think you're there, my steps are around 20 / 25 so you're fixed I reckon.

Just checking It was mentioned about resetting the IACV once warmed up to temperature, so if youā€™re fitting a new one assuming you just turn the car on and leave it to warm up then turn it off, ignition on second click throttle up/down 5 times after 20 seconds ignition off then back on and start it, this will set the IACV to within range ????
Thereā€™s a lot of mixed opinions on the resetting the valve some say itā€™s a myth ?
Just curious šŸ¤Ø
Thank you

I can tell you it's not a myth on the MG ZR, so I would say the same for the MPI.

My IACV valve on my ZR was incorrectly set and the engine would rev up and down on it's own at idle. The reset stopped it, and it lasted a couple of weeks before reving up and down again. Each reset stopped it.

I then got my T4 and set it up correctly.

There is an ongoing problem with the terminology used to describe the functions of the MEMS 2J.

I am no expert, but information is available in the Haynes manual on Engine Management and Fuel Injection. It has a section on MEMS and although it covers the entire MEMS range, it can be used to understand its functions.

When the ignition is turned off the stepper(IACV) is moved to the fully closed postion, then moved to a postion where the throttle plate is slightly open, ready for the next engine start. This happens no matter how long the key is on/off and without regard to pressing the throttle. Resetting the stepper so that it is in range, requires the use of the scan tool(FCR), T4, ACR or other tool. The adaptive idle measurements are retained in non-volatile memory and cannot be lost - even if the vehicle battery is removed.

I don't think there is a standard usage for the term indexing and resetting as it is not really defined in any of the manuals.

Use the tool to check the status of the steps and readjust only if necessary. In one of the sections of the Rover documentation, it indicates that a value of 20-40 is acceptable. The ACR adjusts this to a tighter specification.

Thatā€™s brilliant thatā€™s answered a lot of questions there, the ACR Iā€™m using says between 16-20 I believe on the steps, but from what youā€™re saying it can be more, with regards to the position of the IACV the higher the numbers the more itā€™s close so 80 closed 0 fully open Is that correct ?

Ok so Iā€™ve recieved a replacement IACV from Minispares which Iā€™ll fit I think, any tips on fitting it without messing up where Iā€™ve gotten too!
Can someone confirm on the steps higher the number more closed it is ? Or vice versa ?

Cheers all
Lee

pscan has a stepper calibration feature for the MPI.

You can read about it here https://www.the-t-ba...values?start=28

I am currently nearing completion of a similar feature for the SPI.

If there is anyone near me in Ruislip with an SPI who wants to be a guinea pig then please get in contact.
