Hi all!

I'm soon to be leaving the UK, moving to Luxembourg and I'm planning on taking my 1995 Sidewalk with me.

Insurance has just run out, so firstly, does anyone have any good recommendations for short term/rolling monthly insurance contracts? I've been with Adrian Flux in recent years.

Secondly, does anyone have any tips/advice for moving to European insurance? I've looked into declaring the car and obtaining a Luxembourgish driving licence, but haven't dug deep into any insurance companies yet.

Apart from that, is there anything else I need to be wary of? Emission issues perhaps...?

Look forward to your advice!

I hope you are planning on doing this within this year as it will be easier than next year.

I can’t comment on Luxembourg rules but I am aware of a few different countries. One of the first things you will need to do is get it a local MOT and then insurance both on the VIN you should then be able to register it. Some countries allow cars to be rehpgistered as Historic status. Normally for unmodified or with period modifications this can allow you to disregard the driving restrictions based on emissions in some places.

don’t think we have any members from Luxembourg on here.

You can cancel an insurance policy when you like and, depending on how far into it you are, you will received a refund on the remaining months.

Although the refund will leave plenty in the insurer's favour, it will still more than likely work out cheaper than a policy designed to insure month by month - they'll charge handsomely for that (if such a thing exists).
