I'm trying to figure out how to remove the lock cylinders from the drivers door and boot lid handles (1961 Mini). I expected to find release points under the escutcheons that would allow them to be pulled out with the key inserted but can't see any. Both have roll pins that I've removed thinking they might be holding them in place. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is?

thanks,

Brian

There is a raised dimple as you describe but no evidence of a circlip.

There's a pin through the shaft on the boot handle, look at the groove in the replacement barrel to gauge where to look for it. Haven't done Mk1 door handles but expect they are similar. You need a key in to withdraw the barrel.

As Ethel says - there is a pin through the handle body which locates in a groove in the lock.  It is offset from the centreline of the handle.

For the boot handle I think I remember the pin being hidden behind the dome shaped piece which is crimped onto the handle assembly, but east enough to remove with patience.

Often the locks are stuck in the handles due to years of dirt build up - you might find you need to soak the whole assemble in something to start to dissolve the grime and get it to release its grip.

thanks for the info guys,

the roll pins are out of both and the cylinders turn freely so I guess the next step will be to soak the handle & lock assemblies then see if I can pull the locks out with the keys
