So I’m looking to change the CWP without splitting the block/box. I’ve taken off the speedo housing and the diff so have two “windows” to work through. How do I lock the main shaft? All of the videos/pictureboards I find show people locking 1st and 4th but with the box completely off so they have access to synchros etc through the top. Obviously I don’t have that option.

Please help!

With the speedo housing off you will see the shift rod that operates the selector rods. You need to remove the knuckle joints from either end of the shift rod, one inside the box and one outside the box. With the knuckle joints and shift rod removed you can pull out the 'lobster claw' (think it's called a change speed gate officially).
You're then able to move the selector forks - they need a good firm shove. Can't think which fork is which from memory. One will need pushing away from you and one towards you. You'll be able to see which way the hubs move via the diff aperture.

Looking from the speedo housing end push the middle selector shaft away from you to engage 4th gear and pull the right hand selector shaft towards you to engage 1st gear.

Lock the flywheel and put it in a gear.
