I'm after a set of replacement Japanese made steering rack gaiters for my SPi. Currently it has some 'Valtain' with markings 'SV 1056', which measure about 5" long when the wheels are straight.

Does anyone know if these parts from Somerford are the same:

I tried calling today, but they weren't much help...

I wasn't sure if measuring the length of the gaiter when on the car with the wheels straight is a fair assumption of it's length? Anyone ordered these before?

Cheers,

Will.

Well valtain are one of the makers of Mini rack gaiters.

if Somerford are selling it as a Valtain branded one it will be the same.

ps it is most likely a UK rack if original.

Great. Somerford have confirmed the part is the same and there will be stock in a couple of weeks.

Cheers.

Just to let you know that GSV1056 is the product code for 7.5 in long steering rack gaiters

The other gaiters are 4.5 inches long with the exception of GSV1004 which are 6.5 in long - used on quick turn racks and QH racks

Just dropping this in there as you say you think you need 5 inch boots, didn't want you to get the wrong ones that's all

This was my concern.... Mine measure about 5" long, however this is while they are on the car and with the steering straight. Without taking them off the car and measuring them when they are not stretched or under compression I am not sure of their exact length.

There is a big difference in price too.

From Somerford £33 as opposed to £11 elsewhere. I had to source some for a customer a few years back, and the GSV1056 were the ones needed, theirs was a later Mini and not an earlier Mini

Just that you can see SV1056 on the rubber, and the part number for the longer boots is GSV1056

As I say, I wouldn't want you to order the wrong parts, so hold fire a bit and wait until you can look at the length a bit better

I think you're right.. I'm happy to pay the £33 to get a quality product but I think you are right and that I need a 6.5" long gaiter, which as far as I can tell, there isnt a Japanese made alternative.

Think my best bet is to get them off and order some parts then.

Cheers.

Will.

That does look tidy! Where did you buy them and what size are these?

Cheers.
