Hi,

This might seem like a strange question and that is probably why I can't find an answer anywhere.

Can I fit a 12g202 head on a 1275.   I know most people are putting 1275 heads on small bores but can I fit a fully worked 1100 head with big valves on a 1275?

I didn't think you could but I saw a mini on gumtree for sale with a hotted up 1275 with a 12g202 head.

Thanks Brad

Sure you can and it may be better than a standard 12G940 head.

I’m not sure how that’d work out as you’d need to use the smallbore gasket to match the head, but it completely overhangs the bores on a 1275 block.

Phil.

Thanks Nick,

So would I use  a 1275 head gasket or a 998 gasket and would any other mods be needed?

Thanks Turbo Phil,

You just asked the same question I was wandering about.  Also the bypass hose?

Mmm I had not thought about the head gasket.

bypass hose to the pump? Fit it or blank it they are the same place all heads.

I received a 1275 from a mate a few years back, for overhaul, that was topped with a 12G202 head. He'd never had it running, but when I stripped it down, it was clear it had been running (and for some time) with it.

Going by many of the other 'fixes' that had been done on this power unit, my best guess is that the original head was damaged (likely cracked) and fitting this head in the era it would have been a cheap fix.

The 202 flows considerably less than the stock 940 in standard form.
What size valves have been fitted to modded the 202?

Phil.
