Hi all just had an 80 pick up in, initially when trying to start engine turned over but no spark, it then spat the distributor out as the clamp was lose and when trying to put it back in couldn't get it in all the way.

I have now removed the engine and tried to turn over and it is stuck solid. Could there be something in the dizzy drive that is stuck. Also to note when removing the engine it tipped forward and oil came out the hole where dizzy would be, again would this cause it to seize? Thanks for any advice

It sounds like the distributor drive shaft has dropped into the gearbox.

If its still there you can fish it out with a 5/16 unf bolt. If it is in the bottom of the box you can remove the speedo drive housing and hopefully get it out with a bit of shaking and a magnetic stick. Failing that its off with the gearbox which may not be a bad thing to check for damaged teeth etc.

I can still see a shaft with the 2 cut outs in the hole where the dizzy sits or is there a shaft behind this that can fall?

There's nothing behind that

If the dizzy shaft jumps out of position it can foul the crankshaft stopping it turning, insert a long 5/16" UNF into the end of the dizzy shaft (its threaded) and draw the dizzy shaft out completely. Check it's straight and not damaged before putting it back in, you'll need to wiggle it around a little to get the bottom end to locate. The slot also needs aligning, IIRC it's offset upwards and at 45 degrees to horizontal, bottom left to top right but check that!

Without the dizzy fitted, yes oil will come out of the dizzy hole if you tip the block forwards.

It will have jumped out of mesh when it pushed the dizzy out. If it hasn’t gone back properly then it could be jamming the cam or crank. Remove it and reinstall it as per the manual.

Use the long engine mount bolts that got longitudinally through the side of the speedo drive housing (when in car)
