Hello all,
There aren't many pics out there of the old floor mounted seatbelt holder, the part fixed to the center of the floor that both seat belts clip into.
I'm hoping to repair it. At first the 'press' button kept falling out, but I was able to release it with a digit, but now it's not releasing the belt at all. Photo to follow....

You mean the Kangol one....

http://www.theminifo...mk3 +seat +belt

Too dark, damp, & far to check at the moment but i'm fairly sure mine looks more like this version....

(& yes it is the original 1975).

Hi, thank you for the reply. Sorry I couldn't get a photo yet. But yes you do have a photo of the one I have - great. It is the kangol.
Although while I was trying to get the photo, I managed to release the stuck belt, so one step nearer

Check if the seat belt tongue is damaged, if it is then the seat belt needs replacing.

Hopefully it's only gummed up, take it out of the car & give it a damn good clean.

Will need lubricating afterwards - a lot of people recommend using silicone spray (with a Mk3 there is very little chance of getting it on the webbing).

If the tongue doesn't latch with a nice firm click after cleaning then you will need to replace the buckle (unfortunately finding a new one is about as likely as finding Puff the Magic Dragons baby teeth for sale!).

Right, will do. I have some spares I could change to if I must. (I'd rather fix and keep it original) but after reading about it on here, original may be a mystery, because, if I've got this right - they may have mixed things up at the factory / there were options offered when first sold and there's a high chance any owner over the cars life could have changed it. Blimey!
Thank you for the tip and inspiration.

Before 1971 seatbelts were fitted by the BLMC dealership you purchased the car from & could be Britax, Kangol, or others.

1971 on they were factory fitted Kangol (you had the option of static seatbelts or paying extra for inertia reel seatbelts).

Paying extra .... not likely!
Thank you for the info.
I've found a more modern type that I had in a box, in the shed, but need to check them over first and see if they fit without drilling holes. If ok, then I can try to fix the originals when out of the car at a more leisurely pace.

Me again, a few years later, I must be on island time or summit, ha.
Anyway went in with fresh eyes and low n behold, just put in the stalk type bases and didn't have to change the actual belts, and didn't need to drill holes, it''s win win.
As for the original base, I think it's had it. If I ever find another that'd be good.
Thank you itsaminithing
