Heeloo all!

I have decided I'm going to spray the inside of my mini in Hammerite...
Mixing red and yellow, to give me the orange I want.

Just need some advice really...

I know I need Hammerite thinners to make it a nice smooth consistantsy... but what ratio of paint to thinners do I need?

Also, what sort of primer shall i use? Do I need to thin this down to?

Cheers

Forget buying the stupidly expensive hammerite thinners, you can use normal cellulose thinners and it works perfectly, i tried it earlier this year on some parts for the woody estate and it works brilliantly. You can also use cellulose thinners to thin POR15 and engine enamel as well.... Its also good for cleaning out your spray guns. Can't remember how much thinners i used, but it wasn't a lot, think it was something like 5 or 10% thinners. I know it was definitely 5% for the POR15 paint.

Sorry, POR15 is a different type of paint. Its made in the USA and is like hammerite just a lot tougher.

Type in Frost on google and you should find the Frost website, they stock all the POR15 paints... They don't do orange though.... :w00t:

Oh, also, i forgot to mention, make absolutely certain that everything is covered up that you don't want speckled in hammerite. When you spray it, it travels a LONG way, and when it lands it is still wet, so it sticks... I coated the girlfriends dads garage in the stuff before i realised.!!

So POR15, then Hammerite?

How much of the POR15 do i need?
I intend to do the complete inside, and the boot along with the engine bay... if my compressor is up to the job!

No, you don't need the POR15, hammerite will suffice... POR15 is more suitable for suspension and chassis parts, as it is only available in black or silver....

Sorry, wasn't trying to confuse you... I would get a 500ml tin of each colour, and then add the red to the yellow until you get a match. This should be enough for spraying i would have thought...

that should be plenty :w00t: your not spraying a bus :)

as to amount of thinners it varies on how you like it to spray but you'll have to doit by feel as your mixing it

you can use normal thinners but with the proper hamerite stuff it sets faster and harder, and flows nicer

used the spray the jobs all the time at my old work, that was all hammerited

its difficult to get a super gloss finish when you spray with it though
