Hi everyone,
Having owned two seven type cars, one with a bike engine I am now looking at a Z Cars Mini.

What sort of weight is a finished car? I understand I can get perspex windows etc etc. but an idea of the lightest car and an average one would be handy. I won't ask which engine because I guess you all have your own opinions!

I think the lightest is R1MiniMagics are about 450kgs?? And I would say the average has got to be about 600kgs. The engine can quite an effect on this, a bike engine weighs about 70-80kg, where as the Type R Vtec they use would be about double that.

However, I believe the Monte Carlo is lighter by design anyway.

Dale(R1minimagic) is the lightest Zcars I know of. Using the R1 engine it weighs at the last count I think 470 kgs. It is road legal, lights, 2 seats etc, but his lightening techniques are a bit savage shall we say, no rear or side windows at all, only half a bulkhead and things like that

Mine is 580Kgs with all the windows in and a Hayabusa in it which is 25Kgs heavier than the R1 unit aswell.
Still a little heavier than a Megabusa but not much.

Thanks chaps, most sevens with bike engines are around 500 or 550kgs. the very lightest are about 420kgs.
I am asking because it can have quite a dramatic effect on performance. ie stick a bulky passenger in and notice the difference when pulling out of a hairpin.
Colin Chapman was a clever man in many ways. ie less is more!!

I've got to admit that I've never found i notice a difference in mine with even the bulkiest of passengers?!? And I'm no tinkerbell myself! :P (before anyone else says so)

I think the gearing that z-cars use really eliminates most of that effect?! Could be talking a bunch of arse though! lol :w00t:

add about 80-100 kilos to those figures for the type r i think. Might lose abit at the front over a vtec because its got the new custom zcars front subframe which the original bige ones didnt have
