I'm trying to get my motor together.
I decided on the SW5 but it did not come with a spec sheet.
I did a search and came up with the numbers AC Dodd posted, but to be honest...they are not working for me.

Does anyone have any other specs for verify the cam timing. Degrees at max lift maybe?

Or try to explain to me why I can not get .016" at 16°. or any of the other intake numbers.

It is also listed as .281 lobe lift but I only measure about .230.
Now if you multiply that times 1.25 rocker ratio....I come real close at .287

Thanks
Bill

I don't know where my notes on that are (if I kept them at all). However, 107 degrees at max lift comes to mind (don't use this unless someone else confirms it!). You can try writing Keith Calver for that information. Alternatively, you could search the message board on the Mini Spares web site as I know it's been discussed there. You could also call Swiftune about this. Don't waste an email on them. They're nice people, but apparently too busy to respond to emails.

107deg @full lift ings a bell, it was posted a little while ago on cam comparisons of an mg cam!! i'll try and find it!!

SW5

Checking height: 0.016" @ lobe

Timing: (Intake): 15/49 (Exhaust): 52/12

Nominal lobe lift: (Intake): 0.281" (Exhaust): 0.281"

Duration (Intake): 244 (Exhaust): 244

Lobe centre angle (Intake): 107 (Exhaust): 110

Lobe separation angle: 108.5

Lift on overlap: 0.036"

lobe centre angle is what i time up at, engine at 107degrees, cam at full lift!!

Thanks guys.
I'll check the 107°.
Are the numbers posted your actual numbers or some copied off the web?
The 15 at .016 checking height just is not making it for me.
Not sure what is being reference at .016.
I'm used to seeing measurements at .050 but not ".016 checking height".

Also note the nominal "lobe" lift listed as .281.
I'll recheck mine a couple more times but I was only measuring .230 at the lobe.

The specs of aftermarket cams are listed in the FAQ's

This information was taken from a post on MiniResource by AC DODD. If you know anything about engines and building them, he is the mutz.

Find the FAQ and theres a link to the original website with standard cams aswell as aftermarket ones.

Thanks Jordie but I think you misread my original post.
I already stated I had those numbers from AC Dodd.

My problem was trying to get those numbers to apply to my cam timing.

I was hoping someone here who actually degree their cams in would have had some additional or different specs.

I have not heard one person say they have degreed in their cam and used those specs.
All the hits I found on doing searches references right back to those same numbers.

I'm just surprised that this is listed and referred as one of the most popular cams but no one has any personal specs?

Does everyone just install them straight up (0°) as delivered out of the box without degreeing them in? :'(

OK all is right in the world!!
New day.
Had to reverse the cranial/rectum inversion!!!

I started all over and reset TDC. Then I decided to recheck the cam timing dots just to make sure...
Well you guessed it. Had it one tooth off.

So I can say that all my intake readings now fall within 1/2° of the AC Dodd posted figures.

I even found out why my lift was off. My gauge only went to .230 range so I was .050 short.

Now I can press on with the build!!
Thanks for all the replys.

Couple pics for you.

Here's a before and after shot of the pistons.
Amazing what a little soap and water will do.
Soaked them in the coffee cans with hot water and laundry soap for a day. Occasionally scrub with a tooth brush.
