A+ Is the later type engine, (A series being the earlier). You'll probly find your engine came from a Metro originaly.

yer it came from a metro.

the bloke before me paid £300 and another £300 fro fitting.

so it came out of a metro, with push in driveshafts. mine origionally had couplings.

any ideas rich?

A+ are just the newer engines!

Everything up to early 80's was classified as A-series engine, then a few refinements turned it into A+, which was then used in the Metro.

A+ units have a slightly different block casting (have built-in ribs), different distributor mount, they use the Verto clutch system, which is more expensive, but better.

A+ units also have different bearings and a generally updated gearbox, again harder to find parts for and fix, but these are meant to last much longer than A-series!

All metros I believe were fitted with A+ engines

Hope that helps

As for the sticker, it could be anything, since A+ engines never came with such a sticker, so might be the owner just displaying it :)

I think the MG Metro came with the sticker, all the MG engines I've had have had them...

I would stick with the later A+ engine, it is stronger (to a point) and more readily available in scrappies if you do break it!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh man, that's funny! Imagine finding Mini parts in the scrapyard! HAHAHAHA!!!

Oh wait, I forget most of you guys aren't in North America. Must be nice to actually be able to find used Mini parts in a local scrappy.

LOL, i was thinkin about this last night, how weird it would be to see virtually no minis on the road and not here of parts for them in your area. I reckon it would be freaky!!

Nah, it's really cool. I'd say more than 75% of the people here don't even know what a Mini is. The other 25% haven't seen one since the late 60's (when they stopped officially importing them to the states) It's great driving a car that is this unique.

But, yeah finding parts is always a challenge.
