the bloke before me paid £300 and another £300 fro fitting.
so it came out of a metro, with push in driveshafts. mine origionally had couplings.
any ideas rich?

Everything up to early 80's was classified as A-series engine, then a few refinements turned it into A+, which was then used in the Metro.
A+ units have a slightly different block casting (have built-in ribs), different distributor mount, they use the Verto clutch system, which is more expensive, but better.
A+ units also have different bearings and a generally updated gearbox, again harder to find parts for and fix, but these are meant to last much longer than A-series!
All metros I believe were fitted with A+ engines

As for the sticker, it could be anything, since A+ engines never came with such a sticker, so might be the owner just displaying it

I would stick with the later A+ engine, it is stronger (to a point) and more readily available in scrappies if you do break it!

Oh wait, I forget most of you guys aren't in North America. Must be nice to actually be able to find used Mini parts in a local scrappy.
