well lads, just getting a chance to start one of these diarys now. i am a 20 year old from ireland. i am a coded welder and am currently a mechanical engineering student. as part of my college course i have to do a thesis project and most people do go karts or you have the occasional farm machinary but i opted for something different i decided to do a rwd bike r1 engined mini. i have been on here for a while asking questions and the sort and thanks to everyone here for all there help yea really are nice helpfull bunch of people.
so far on my project (which i am naming taz after the tazmanian devil, she will be a rocket!) i have stripped her down to the bare shell, i have also made up a mock up frame out of box section to see if my measurements are right and bar one or two minor setbacks i am nearly completed i have basically to by pipeing and get bending and welding. i have some photos taken and will attach as soon as i get a chance. i am using a standard mini front subframe and am considering fabricating my own but will complete it using standard one first. i have purchased an carbed r1 engie and it will be couried from england the first week in janurary.

hi, nice project, just noticed your from sligo, where abouts in sligo are you? i live in kent most of the year, but weve got a farm in co. sligo near tubbercurry, i spend about 4 months a year in sligo and we usally take a big van accross so if you need any second hand mini spares just pm me and i can see if ive got the bits and let you know when i'm coming over... just a thought, but have you considered mounting the engine in the front and making it front wheel drive? its a pretty staight forward build ? i'm gonna start to convert a standard front subframe to take a cbr1000 engine in the new year... good luck.....frank

hey chris, hope the projects coming on. i may have sourced the diff setup you wanted, my mate use to race an xr4x4 twin turbo and he's pretty certain he's got the complete back axle setup hidden in his barn somewhere, if you still need this setup let me know and i'll get him to have a look for you. i wont be coming back to ireland for another month or two though. if your interested just pm me...cheers...frank
