how would i go about findin out the paint code of my car

Your paint code should be on the VIN plate of your car, but they aren't always stamped up depending on when it was made. That is the only way to know for sure unless you know the name of the paint on your car. The thing is some paints have the same name even though they're different colours, so you can be caught out that way. Like the way there are at least four different colours called Rover/Leyland Flame Red. And black has always been called Rover Black, but there are at least three different shades AFAIK.

LOL what bout when my dad went looking for british racing green, there are thousands..... and unfortunately none were of the caterham variety

The log book just gives a colour. The paint code is on the VIN plate. If you still have no luck, try the dealer. If the car is relatively modern (mid 90's on) they should have the code stored on the Rover system, and you should just need your registration (or maybe VIN number) to get it.
