I Know I Know the Z-Cars Should be an Open Budget Build......

But I really Can't....The Wife is stressing already.....(Cheaper with a divorce??)

Car is Purchased and ready to be stripped, that is it so need all the other Parts.

where should I budget??

was thinking like this..

£5,000 Frame
400 Reverse
55 throttle pedal Adaptor
260 Wire Harness
280 Alloy Rad header Tank
1,500 Paint job.
500 wheels
200 Brakes
300 Seats
500 Other bits.

£8995.00 think that is realistic??

Do I want to ask what you lot have speant??

Oh an Should I add the LSD?? £500 tempting But Will work without the Cost......

Next question Anyone selling any parts. hee hee
Thanks

Brian

Good point!
Would it not be cheaper/easier and more wife friendly to buy Pete's pick-up and then personalise from there??

Good call graeme, I would do that to be honest especially if your on a tight budget, everything is there to build a complete car, my initial list looke like yours when i first visited zcars and had the price list etc & convinced the misses i would build it under £12k (busa engine) but you dont think about the odd £50's here and there which soon mount up.
It will work without an LSD which you could get from a sierra 4x4 at a later date but petes pickup @ £6.5k is a steal considering its on injection aswell.
Go for it...............You wont regret it.

I'd times that 'Other bits' by 3 or 4 as well! What about steering wheel, harnesses, tyres (500 for wheels and tyres isn't much if your getting new wheels), any body bits (arches, flipfront, scoops, plastic windows), fuel cell/tank, etc.

why would you want to spend £500.00 on a second hand viscous diff from an old sierra, when you could get one yourself for beer money , weld up the gaps and stick some ATF in it , job done, that kind of money for a part from a scrap yard really is money for very old rope, but if folk are stupid [ or rich enough] enough to pay it,,,,,,,,,

this is exaclty the reason why i abandoned building one from scratch and bought one of the 90% finished ones form here on TMF. it would have been nice to do things my way etc etc , but the final cost was just way to high for me. i think i musy have saved about £4000 at least by doing this.

i can obviously change things on the car as i go to personalise it for my tastes , as can anyone.

Don't think anyone's built a road legal one for less than £10k yet so in answer to your first question, no your budget is not realistic. I spent over £13k, Ade spent more than me and Andy's budget is £16k.

As for parts for sale, i'm selling a complete z-cars kit with 2004 R1 engine for £6750. And i'll throw in the rest of the car for free.

everyone is right,
though i wouldnt get everything from chris, i.e
loom £150 (premier wiring systems sierra based loom) wire r1 loom yrself locostbuilders website go to this web set click forums then BEC (bike engined cars) loads of info on bike engined looms etc.
Header tank £80 (my mate) allyfab
The brakes you can do for £200 quid (metro) like everyone says treble it if you want real perfromance/lightweight
you could go without reverse,my mate dosnt have reverse on his 7 replica (just think about where u park!!)

even here ive only saved £700 quid on yr shopping list, ive built 3 kit cars ,like the guys say its the £50 quid here and there that add up, (you think oh i just need a bit of stonechip paint,oh yeah a bit of sandpaper, some brake pipe clips suddenly you've spent fifteen quid ,and guess what the same happens tommoro!)
Not trying to put you off its a fantastic kit to build, but you have got to be realistic with what you want from the finished product, there is a car on a video clip of some guys from Norway , you can see the car has been done on a minimal budget (looks rough) but the grin on their faces is a million dollars!! (the link is on this forum somewhere), if you want a real head turner £13K is a more realistic budget.
Petes kit sounds a real steal to me, i dont know if his kit would fit a saloon (would have to ask him) if you didnt fancy the pick up. even so its a super doner vehicle if you did use the parts
Good look matey ,look forward to seeing whatever you do!
