ok ive been looking at correcting the throttle on the mini, as the previous owner stuggled to achieve full throttle and set about bending the pedal to give more travel...

i changed the pedal to the one off my other mini that is of course the correct shape - i suppose by adjusting the positions of the two cables i can get it to travel from nothing to full throttle? im not sure bending the pedal is quite the normal 'engineering solution' most people would try but it left the pedal so high up you woud have to have your foot off the floor to press it :/

actually my main reason for starting this thread is that while i was investigating this i noticed the long cable from the bike end to the front is frayed and splitting as iot comes out the end of the tube. not exactly confidence inspiring considering it has only done about 100 miles since being built!

Where can i get a new cable? OR can i just buy this cable in a long length and cut it down?

i wondered if i could do this as it has the brass stop attached to to one end.

sorry if thats a bit long winded lol...

ok , got the throttle cable from CBS in the end. and worth the £33! :-

anyway ive just fitted it and although its luurvy and smooth im still only reaching a little over 1/2 throttle....

it seems that the amount of travel the normal mini pedal has is too much compared to the amount of travel the engine needs.

it also seems that the adapted throttle arm from Zcars has the wrong pivot point. Ie if i drill a new hole lower down the arm i would be able to get full throttle?

i thought i'd just ask you guys before i go ahead and start drilling?

cheers dan.

nevemind. ive had a look and it will work. i will have to move the accelerator cable from the pedal down the arm about 3.5" in order to get the correct travel.

any lower and the cable is bending a bit too much as it exits the bulkhead.

yea we all get there in the end, but why does the zcars throttle arm provide the wrong pivot angle??

I must say mine was only getting 3/4 throttle so a slight bend in the pedal was needed. i also fitted a spring to the bottom of the throttle pivot arm.

mine has a spring on the top of the arm , attached to the radiator.

the thing about bending the pedal is that it ends up just so far off the floor it makes it hard to use. IMO...

The bend is only slight and the pedal now sits 1/2" higher.
It gives more throttle control rather than the on off effect.
Here is a pic of my setup in the off position minus the spring which sits at bottom of the arm to the cable adjuster.

I just drilled a hole further down the throttle arm. Does mean the cable is at an angle coming out of the bulkhead but not enough to cause any problems.

yea thats what ive done now and the thottle opens pretty much all the way. it would ony take a few more degrees for it to be wide open. i think 95% will be plenty :-

seems strange that Zcars didnt design the throttle arm correctly.- if everyone is having to make changes for it to function properly...
