Random Gearbox Engine Question.

Nothing to do with El Gordo but to do with a thing my teacher Andy mentioned. My teacher used to ride a ducati until he had to dump it doing 90mph because the throttle jammed open while coming up to a tight corner. Any who, was talking to him about zcar hyabusa engined minis and he bought about a question on the drive train of the Z car mini. The chain.
He said it would be a good idea to perhaps marry a hyabusa engine to a Honda shaft drive bike (that big bike, can't for the life of me think of the name, its a massive thing). This way less power loss from the chain and a full diff could be used.
Just wondering if its a good idea. I mean it sounds like a stonking idea because from what I can tell zcar mini's don't really have a diff do they?

As for shaft drive sapping less power than a chain, i think thats wrong, its the other way round as a shaft is heavier and has more resistance due to the bearings and the diffs at either end to tranlate the power from the engine to shaft and shaft to wheel.
Please correct me if im wrong, which is highly likely

i thought that aswell, however a shaft driven bike engined mini would be allot quiter and probably have less backlash though the gearsAs for shaft drive sapping less power than a chain, i think thats wrong, its the other way round as a shaft is heavier and has more resistance due to the bearings and the diffs at either end to tranlate the power from the engine to shaft and shaft to wheel.

It has a reverse!
Think it would be smooth ride with that engine in the back also.

This the Quaife item Pete?
At that price I wish it was. This is the one that I would like
http://www.quaife.co...ar-drive-system
Doesn't use a chain at all and incorperates reverse.

No good in a mini, unless you want to have your face stuck on the windscreen, might be just alright in a mini pickup or van due to the longer wheelbase
