Hayabusa Dimension please

I'm thinking of building a Hayabusa Mini for sprinting but i'm not a big fan of launching with a chain drive. I've seen a few snapped chains on Radicals and its not a pretty sight. At best it takes out the crank case and sometimes goes straight through the chassis too. Quaife make a gear drive system which the Radicals use with a built in gear reverse system too but its all about spindle centres So my question is :D What is the dimension spindle centre to spindle centre from the busa output shaft to the centre of the dif on the Zcars rear frame? the Quaife unit is about 265-270mm ctr to ctr.

Hello,
I asked this question and was told by a Zcars hayabusa owner it was 8.5 inches between sprocket centres, which is 216mm and then there is an allowance of about an inch, inch and half for the chain to be tensioned, so sounds possible, but mighty expensive, about 3,000 plus just for the box I think

ok this is a pertinant question which can be easily sorted
as some of you will know we built over700 bike engined autograss cars in the past 14 years mainly bike engined ones
when we started we ran a configuration very much like the bike engined minis we now produce
gradual development over the years led to us finding more and more grip with the cars and we started to break chains
after much development a lot of the problems were traced to the engine/diff units being fastened to the chassis as seperate units this led to flexing between them and the chain then being exposed to uneven loads down each side of the links
this overstresses one side and chain then breaks
we cured this by fastening the engine and diff unit as one so there was no twisting at all,this is the same system we use now on all mini kits
after a while we got bigger and bigger powered engines and we started breaking the chain again we then moved up from 530 chain to 630 chain this cured the problem for good
the 530 chain we were using was the strongest available and the same as fitted to the hyabusa road bike its breaking strain is 10000 lbs in a straight pull
the 630 that we started using is rated at 12500 lbs static pull therefore 25% stronger
autograss cars are subjected to horrendous loads off the line the cars weigh 400 kilos and set off in as tall a gear as the engine will physically pull around 68mph when it hits the rev limiter
we use bigger clutch pressure springs and literally hold the car on the rev limiter till the light changes then side step the clutch,the car will wheelie and transfer all its weight onto the driven wheels through a welded diff there is no slip at all and the cars are subjected to this treatment week in and week out
many of you will say that the autograss cars dont have big slicks on the back so theres no grip
if you watched them in the live action arena this year at autosport you would have seen even the saloons wheelie out of the grid on the polished surface in there
they generate massive amounts of grip due to the trailing arm suspension and the way we set them up
if you saw the stig set a world record indoors from a standing start you may recall he got to 81 mph before having to stop,he was in a full house F1 car,
an autograss car has recorded 83 mph in the same building and was doing it for fun at this years autosports show proof if it was needed that we can get grip where even the best cant
in short i wouldnt have any worries at all in doing standing starts repeatedly with a hill climb version of our cars,plus the drive box saps power due to driving several gears each of which creates drag,fine in a closed formula such as the radicals but no good if you are after as much hp as possiable
also the chain setup is a lot lighter and ratios can be changed quickly especially as we supply split sprockets
if you want confirmation of how hard the autograss world is on engines and transmissions just ask ted hurrell at powertec engineering he builds all the radical engines plus the V8 they do,i invited him to an autograss meeting several years ago when i was racing a mini with one of his 1500 radical engines in he stood behind the start line and watched for an hour as about 20 races set off he was speechless when he found me in the pits and couldnt beleive the abuse we were expecting his engines to take
to his and the bike engine manufacturers credit they will take it time and time again
