why is my mini cooper insurence group 6? when there are faster cars in lower groups. i.e.my friends 1.4 16v clio sport, which is quicker and handels very well too. i mean the standard 1.6 bmw mini is only group 5. i find it quite annoying as i want to get off my dads insurence and start buildin a no claims up.

I suspect a lot is now to do with rebuild costs, and nickability.... most modern cars, if you dent a panel, they just bolt on another pre-painted one.... labour costs plummet, with minis you still need a half competent welder and that involves time a prep and then spraying... The other thing is I think there was a spate a few years back when Mini thefts went through the roof...

My suggestion is to shop around for insurance, I knocked a third of mine this time round, and I didn't even change company... when renewal came I just said I've had a better offer from xyz, will you match it ? which they did.
