Hey, im going to have to sell one of my minis, but I have no idea what its worth any indication of price would be appreciated:

Its a 1981 mini city, I would say its condition is poor and it needs a lot of work. Its MOT'd for about 10 months, and tax runs out in december.
It has rust in all the usual places, and has had sills etc replaced by someone that diddnt do a very good job of it.
The engine is quite reliable but has a few oil leaks and smells pretty hot after afew minutes driving, Ive just replaced the thermostat, but I think its still running a bit hot.
The paintwork is terrible, some retard has replaced a lot of the front end and not bothered to strip that black stuff off, its just been sprayed over on the top, and not protected underneath.
Window seals etc have rotton and there are a few rusty holes under them at the back.
Doors are looking a bit dodgy along the bottom too.

Im hoping to get about £400 for it, does that sound unrealistic?
thanks a lot,
pEaCE
Dom

When I look at a car ( mini ) I consider a few points...

Does it have alloy wheels? is is standard or modified?

if after getting down to the nitty gritty of the car, are there any bits on the car which could easily be sold to recoupe costs if not ecomomical to repair..

The latter it probably the best guide, it's worth the sum of its best parts.

The MOT will stand for something, but as you know, it's only reflects the condition of the car when it was tested...

Without actually seeing the car, 400's an OK starting point, but don't be surprised if your offered 200... be prepared to negotiate..

Sounds like a shed to me. I wouldn't give £400 for that.

As an example, when I bought the on that I drive atm, in March, it had:

12months MOT
No tax
Recently been resprayed
Standard 998cc engine, good runner
4 new tyres

I paid £450.

£400 - £450 is shed money for a Mini in my experience. Could be worth about that but you might get more if you break it on E-bay (sadly)
