Hi All,

Soon I will have a new set of licence plates and was wondering about fitting them.

On the old ones the front is bolted on and the rear is stuck on.

Whats the best way to get the rear one off with out damaging the boot?

Next question is, can I stick the front one on (rather than bolt it)?

And if I can whats the best stuff to use?

Cheers,

Charlie

try warming the old one up with a hairdryer or smthin similar then gently peeling it off,i would use servo tape available from most good model shops, its very sticky and strong but will also put up with a bit of vibration and banging around.

theres 2 plates on the front panel where front plate mounts, should be enough area to stick it on. Strange how your rear is stuck on, mines bolted and infact, every mini i've seen has it bolted on. :/

It'd be easier to nick them if they're screwed on, I could have them off in a jiffy with my Swiss Army Knife.

They have been glued on for years now. I use a bit of string to cut through trim tape. Get some fine, but very strong cord and use it to slowly saw through the tape behind the plate, keeping it off the paint as much as possible. There should only be two strips holding it on. Once it is off use some panel wipe or tar remover to clean the panel and attatch the new one. I have the front plate attatched with these sticky bolt on things. They have really big sticky bits to hold the plate well, and screw holes at the top to attatch to the car. Kind of gives the plate some hidden screw holes.
