Right I think I can get hold of an MG metro turbo. However I have heard that the engine is a de-tuned 1275 with a turbo slapped on. Would I be better nicking the turbo bits off the engine and slapping them on a non detuned 1275??

NO , to run properly the compresion must be lower in a turbo engine than a standard N/A engine .

Hmmm, it's just that I was told it was a better way to do a turbo.

yes a 998 turbo has been done b4, but theres not much point when u could drop a 1275 metro turbo in just as easy. i keep thinking about turboing my 1380 but i think im going to bang a supercharger on instead.

best bet is to get hold of a standard 1275, not MG or anything like that, then stick all the turbo gubbins on it.

there's a dude on turbominis with a 998 turbo, it  fly's!

err NO....as Woody rightly said, the compression needs to be lower.

a standard 1275 has a lot lower compression than an MG engine. If i remember rightly an MG is about 10:1 whereas a standard 1275 engine had around 9.4:1 if not lower. the turbo had 9.4:1 as standard aswell.

If he's on a budget then this is the best way to go. if not then sure get a rebore and some dished pistons and maybe new head with bigger chambers, don't expect much change from a grand though!

obviously don't run more than 7 psi with a CR that high and make sure its set up properly.

I wouldnt recommend charging a 1380, they blow up. Theres not enough meat between the bores. I got photo's to prove it
