180lb's...thats more like it lol!!

to be honest one thing that swayed me towards the rwd layout was the picture of stuart meads rs turbo nitrous'd mini in this months miniworld launching with the front wheels about a foot off the ground...!! it took me back to when i was was seriously into VW's (never owned on though..was too young!), they are rear engined rwd, many can do 12 second quarters, maybe thats whats influencing me subconciously...

I'd go for the FWD Vauxhall, stick a butch exhaust on it, and an induction kit. You'd get respect fomr the lads for having a beast, love from the ladies for having a seck-say motor, and most importantly, your bank manager would still be your friend.

I watched the Ultimate mini dvd last nite again Alburglar, there was alot of difference in the noise of the turbo'd hayabusa versus the R1 engined mini, so a turbo'd bike engine is on the shortlist, but i was most amazed at how well the 'busa engined car handled the power, it wasn't out of control at all!! in fact it seemed easy(ish) to drive!!

I was at the film shoot for Ultimate mini DVD, Chris Allanson (Z-cars) invited me up there for a test drive. That's how I've been in both cars. And It's why I chose the R1 kit. The hyabusa car was all over the place and it was only on 250Bhp. It snakes down the straights and bill solis spent as little time as possible in it.

F1 mini's car will be great because it is wider and the engine will sit much lower. You would have to address some of these issues if you consider a turbo busa.

Most of the kit cars which have bike engines seem to be between 500 and 800 kgs, so i may aim for a wight of my car of about 800kgs, thats not feather light, but with a full interior, i think thats should be feasable??!!
tell me if i'm way off the mark, i probably am!!

Not too bad mate. But It should be lighter than that! I had guessed about 560kg for my car but look at this, because Z-cars have now weighed one:

Performance of Z Cars Bike Powered Minis

R1 Yamaha Mini with ½ tank of fuel, carbon flipfront and carbon boot lid, fully trimmed for road use with all other fluids ready to drive:

Weight 575 kilos
Front Axle 275 kilos
Rear Axle 300 kilos
0 to 60mph 4.5 seconds
100 to 0mph 4.8 seconds
Top speed 120mph
BHP at Crank 160bhp
Power to weight ratio 278bhp/tonne
This can be self built from £5,800

Hyabusa Suzuki Mini with ½ tank of fuel, carbon flip front, carbon boot lid, fully trimmed for road use with all other fluids ready to drive:

Weight 600 kilos
Front Axle 290 kilos
Rear Axle 310 kilos
0 to 60mph 4.25 seconds
100 to 0mph 4.9 seconds
Top speed 125 mph
BHP at Crank 180 bhp
Power to weight ratio 300 bhp/tonne
This can be built from £7,400

Hyabusa Turbo Suzuki with ½ tank of fuel, all steel bodyshell, boot bonnet trimmed for road use and ready to drive:

Weight 650 kilos
Front Axle 320 kilos
Rear Axle 330 kilos
0 to 60mph 3.4 seconds
100 to 0mhp 4.9 seconds
Standing quartermile 11.0 seconds
With terminal speed of 130 mph

NOTE: This car was tested in February 2004 at Bruntingthorpe on road tyres on a cold day - and carrying an 80 kilo passenger as well as the driver.

BHP at Crank 400
Power to weight ratio 615bhp/tonne
This can be self built from £17,500
Obviously, if you are building a car to go racing or sprinting, then the kerb weights can be massively reduced by fitting fibreglass doors, Perspex windows, smaller batteries etc, and not trimming the car with two seats and carpets etc. This will result in 100 kilo reduction in the weight without too much trouble.

You have a lot of food for thought from everyone now. It took me forever to figure out what I was gonna do, but whatever you decide on, Good Luck!

cheers Alburglar.. you've been agreat help mate, 800 kgs should be no problem then, even for a comfy cruiser!!

i thinking about doing th z-cars day where they let have a go in some of the bike engined cars, a mate was interested in this too, so maybe it'll help get my mind set on what i want.

i'm gonna get the steel for the jigs/table on monday, so work can truly begin.....
