they have been licened (BMW have) to produce the traveller, pickup, estate and van of these BINI's... over a 5 year period. altho i thought the BINI van was the next one out..

Absolutely nothing wrong with that car! I think they managed to capture the spirit and styling of the original VERY well!
Everyone seems to think BINIs ruin the whole mini image. That really isn't true. The design and styling they put forth are probably the best one could come up with to continue the mini legend. The onlyc omplaint i have is that they are a bit big.
The traveller is right on, the managed to keep it 2 door and have the wooden styling. You tell me what they missed! They didn't turn it into a 5 door regular hatchback labelled as a traveller, a lot of work went into keeping the original mini spirit!

Why would BMW need a licence to produce these cars? They own the whole identity of Mini, and all it's history. They can do what they like with it and don't have to ask anyone.

it wont sell very well, but i agree with pavel they do try hard to capture some originality and have done it well to an extent but i think with alot of people if you like the original mini line then its hard to like the bini line.
