hey everyone... i hope some of you can help me

I'm about to start stripping down my Mini back to bareshell. I need to find somewhere to take the shell to be chemically dipped to strip the paint off and get rid of everything ready for repairing rust damage and its respray. I'd rather do this than have it sandblasted.

Does anyone know where I can get this done in the UK please? I'm in the Scottish Borders so somewhere close preferably, but I can travel if I have to... I have a trailer so no probs gettin it there n back.

Thanks

The only place I know is Surface Processing Limited in the West Midlands. Picked up one of their leaflets at a show but haven't had anything done. Their website is Surface Processing Limited

I know it's quite a way from you but I hope that helps.

Rung the company this week and according to the woman I spoke to they are the only company that do this sort of thing in the UK.

The prices are
to dip the shell and remove all paint, sealants, rust, etc (includes doors, boot, bonnet) £595
to apply a weldable 2-pack etch primer £350
to apply an electrophoretic immersion primer £775

None of these prices include vat. They have a 3 week turnaround and you have to book a month or two in advance.

So there you go, great thing to have done but I'll have to save up a bit first.

:P

So that's £699.12 to get the bare shell dipped.

Is that the thing the guy with the VW campervan had done on that program on discovery somethingorother?
It's dipped in huge vats of different acids and whatnot?
I'd probably have very little car left after that...

To be honest, I'd love to have a shell dipped.... but the problem is, A Local experienced sand/media blaster that knows minis would be able to clean a shell up for me just as well, and have it etch primed, for about £200. so no contest unfortunatley.

I agree with you on the cost comparisson there retro but what you have to take into consideration is the fact that acid dipping removes 100% of the rust by being able to get inside the sills, pillars, and basically any other crevise you can't reach (or sometimes even see) I plan to take my third mini in to get dipped when i strip it down.... it is $500 canadian to get a mini dipped here...... thats no coating going on after though.... still cheaper than it is there though...
