i have been offered a semi-profesinal respray for £400 and thats including prep and all of the like. But i am very tempted to have a go at rattle caning my car after looking at chaz's pics, but then again chaz is very good at painting and producing some VERY amazing instals so he has had quite a lof of exsperiance. But i suppose if you just spend your time it cant be that bad

This might be a daft question but when changing the colour of a car do you have to primer the hole car? or do you just primer the areas where you have used filler or down to bare metal?

Cheers

come on.... we can live in hope... but seriously, properly prepped panels, and waxoiled annually, you can get 5 - 6 years plus... It is possible...!

It depends on what colour your chaging to and from..

But primer is cheap and easy to spray, if your going to all the effort you might as well do it properly.. for the sake of about £20 extra.

But in answer to your question..

You can get away with just priming the filled areas and keying the other good paint.

I know some will disagree with what I say, but it is relative to the fact that most of the members on here are running their minis on a shoestring budget and just trying to keep things ticking along.

Also most of the cars are not going to be show cars, just reasonable looking everyday run abouts, so spending £1200 on a pro paint job is not logical for some.

My spray job cost me £200 but i had to do ALL preping he then came to check it when i thought i was ready to point out bits i had missed then once i sorted these i took it to him. I took it to the same place my dad had his triumph sprayed 10 years ago and its still looking good!

If i can convince my dad to let me have another project then i will give it a go at spraying it myself :D

They'll re-do the prep on the primer anyway mate. but yeah it saves them doing the strip down etc..
