My ingition light seems to be on whenever engine is running, really really faintly.
The car has stalled at lights afew times, with clutch pressed down. I dunno if its just idle that needs adjusting from having new clutch and afew changes to exhaust brackets.
what else should i check, just incase? dont want to be breaking down or owt in the winter weather which is closing in.
Where to look just incase?

Check your fan belt for tension and condition and the pulleys too, check your engine earth and battery earth for condition and security. Also check the state of the main battery feed to the solenoid and all the solenoid and alternator terminals. If the lamp is only lit faintly your alternator is probably fine, but check that the fixing points are all clean enough for good electrical connection between the alternator body and the engine block. Also try taking the battery to Halfords and getting it tested. This shouldn't be related to the stalling, but I'd give it a tune anyway if I were you and check the clutch is properly adjusted to find out why it is stalling.

the cylinder is really worn and its gotta go bk for that doing. the bite is really close to the floor.
Alternator was changed recently as was the battery earth strap, will check the others. cheers

If you don't find an obvious problem as discussed above, do take it in for testing. The last time I had this problem there was a problem with the internal diode pack and it wasn't pulling in enough to charge the car. Take a volt meter and measure your car's battery voltage (at the battery) with the car NOT running. Now start the engine and measure the voltage at the battery again. If the alternator is working properly you should see a 1 to 1.5 volt increase at the battery indicating that the alternator is sending power to recharge the battery. Below that... it won't charge, over that... you can boil the battery dry.

cheers. will keep that in mind.
The clutch was replaced recently, so i guess he wudda had to move the solenoid, we had problems with that after fitting new engine, so i will check that 1st.

Check your connections to the coil on HT circuit it can throw up problems like this.
With the amount of C**p that comes into the engine bay on a mini it is really a great supprise that the electrical connections last as long as they do.
This will not be a starter soleniod problem. if the soleniod has a poor earth or connections you will get a click followed by then engine not turning over. A quick test of this is to use a screw driver to short over the soleniod connections with the ignition on to complete the ignition circuit. If this starts the engine then it is a sure sign the soleniod is pants and time to buy a new one..

Sorry I should have been more clear. I said to check the solenoid terminals, not the solenoid. Meaning just for corrosion between the various different leads and wires on the battery feed terminal which would affect the voltage to the front loom but not the health of the solenoid. Of course this assumes this car has the remote solenoid and appropriate harness.
